Generation Game 2012

There was a match that took place between the Bloxwich Junior Chess Club and various high ranking players on Saturday 21st April 2012.  Good game, good game.

The match started with a very impressive line up from both sides.  Captained by Dominic Holmes one of the youngest members of the chess club, spoke up infront of a packed room to wish his players the best of luck.  An impressive achievement in one so young.  As arbiter I was asked to toss for colours, unfortunately Bloxwich lost the toss and had white on the odd boards.  Bloxwich faced tough opposition today including Manpreet Sangha, fresh from his experience at the Staffordshire Congress and having faced a GM at that tournament.  As the match got under way every junior was in form with their opening knowledge.  They couldnt be faulted in them.  However with the nature of this game the opponents never do what you want and their experience gained over many years showed as each game slowly began to trickle in.  I have attached below the final results and through my request to the players the games they played.

Although the Bloxwich chess club walked away with only one and half points I was told by their opponents that the kids certainly had a lot of potential, one even saying that a few more matches like this and the kids will be showing the adults a thing or two in no time.  In my own opinion it was a pleasure as usual to be asked to arbit this match and the hospitality provided by them was to its usual high standard.

I look forward to the next time I have the opportunity to visit the Junior club and my congratulations to the winners of todays matches.

Until next time Chess fans
