Newcastle-Under-Lyme Schools'
Under 11 Chess Championship

This year's Newcastle-under-Lyme Schools' Under 11 Chess Championship was held on Wednesday 11th March 2009 at St Wulstan's RC Primary School in Wolstanton (they were last years winners).  This year five schools took part.  Each school sent a team of their top six players to the competition.

This year's competition was run over 3 rounds, using the jamboree pairings system.  The final placings were:

1st

St Wulstan's RC Primary School

2nd

Hassell Community Primary School

3rd

St Margaret's CE Primary School

4th

Seabridge Primary School

5th

St John's CE Primary School

Congratulations to St Wulstan's on retaining the trophy and becoming the 2009 Newcastle Schools Chess Champions.  The top 2 teams received prizes including medals.  All children taking part in the competition received a prize and certificate, sponsored by Staffordshire Junior Chess.  Very well done to all the players who took part.

This is the second time that St Wulstan's has won the Championship.  Prior to 2008 the Championship was consistently won by Hassell Community Primary School and before that by Orme House.  Other past winners includes Schools such as Langdale School and Sir John Offley School.
